The Jane S. McKimmon Hall of Fame has welcomed its newest class of honorees, recognizing nine Extension Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) professionals whose service and leadership have left a lasting mark on communities across North Carolina.
Celebrated during the annual gathering of the N.C. Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences on July 30 in Winston-Salem, this year’s inductees reflect the depth and diversity of talent that has shaped Extension’s work in homes, schools and communities for decades.
Selected for their vision, innovation and profound impact on North Carolina, the 2025 class of FCS hall of fame inductees includes:

Ricky Farlow (Volunteer) — Longtime Polk County volunteer whose expertise helped modernize the Men’s Cooking Class for Extension and inspired culinary learning in a welcoming, community-focused environment.

Geri Bushel (NC State) — A cornerstone of NC State’s agricultural and human sciences department for more than two decades who championed the Dinah E. Gore Teaching and Research Kitchen and advanced inclusive excellence in food and nutrition education.

Cathy Thomas (Partner) — Public health leader and program innovator whose statewide partnerships and nationally recognized initiatives have promoted healthy eating and active living.

Geissler Baker (NC State) — Guilford County nutrition educator known for creative, hands-on programs like “Chef and the Child” that engaged youth in lifelong healthy habits.

Carolyn Dunn (NC State) — Pioneering nutrition expert, program developer and William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor Emerita at NC State, whose work has shaped health behavior change across North Carolina and the nation.

Wanda Hardison and Alice Thomas (NC State) — Longtime collaborators and Extension FCS agents in Harnett County whose grant-funded initiatives expanded childcare resources, educational access, and family support services.

Evelyn Spangler (NC State) — Retired Extension home economics agent in Pitt County who created programs that saved families hundreds of thousands of dollars and connected residents with vital resources.

Deborah Womack (N.C. A&T State) — Former Extension FCS agent in Forsyth County whose 40-plus year career advanced financial literacy, housing outreach and youth education through compassionate, community-centered leadership.
“These inductees have dedicated their time, talents and hearts to making North Carolina a healthier, stronger and more vibrant place to live,” said Sarah Kirby, state FCS program leader with NC State Extension. “Their legacies are forever woven into the fabric of the communities they served.”
Established in 2011, the Jane S. McKimmon Hall of Fame celebrates Extension FCS professionals, volunteers and supporters who have made exemplary contributions to FCS programs that strengthen families, promote healthy lifestyles and build community resilience.
Together, the 2025 inductees dedicated more than 150 years of service to communities across North Carolina.
