Event Details
The Sappony are one of North Carolina's eight state-recognized American Indian tribes. The tribe's deep connection to the land that is now Person County dates back to the early 1700's, before state lines were drawn.

For generations, Sappony Tribal members have honored their artistry, determination, and family connections by creating toys, games, and dolls for children; designing jewelry from copper and precious stones; hand-making prized baskets and woodworking; and sewing quilts, ribbon skirts, jingle dresses, and ribbon shirts.

Join this free special event to learn more about our community's indigenous artistic traditions and try your hand at a few stitches, the Sappony way!

Members of the Person County 4-H Sewing Club will be present to share more information about our club.

This free event is open to all ages. Please register to ensure you receive event updates in a timely manner.

Many thanks to Shelia Wilson and the Sappony Tribal Art Connection for joining us. For more information about the Sappony Tribe, visit www.sappony.org. Learn more about Sappony arts traditions by watching Sappony Arts on YouTube, part of the Arts in Person video documentary series produced by the Person County Arts Council.
