The National Small Flows Clearinghouse provides information and technical assistance to help those who work with small community wastewater systems. NSFC does this through its various services, including:

PUBLICATIONS
The Small Flows Quarterly (SFQ) magazine features news and educational articles about a variety of small community wastewater topics. Each issue also includes a section for peer-reviewed research journal papers dedicated solely to small community wastewater treatment.

Pipeline newsletter is designed to inform local officials and the general public about alternative wastewater technologies. Each issue focuses on a single wastewater topic in an easy-to-read format.

Both are published on a quarterly basis.

WEB SITE
Located at www.nsfc.wvu.edu, the NSFC Web site provides wastewater industry news, online educational resources, as well as discussion groups for networking with others around the nation. Our site also includes the latest downloadable issues of NSFC’s magazine and newsletter, a listing of environmental conferences and events, databases, news releases, new products, and links to other wastewater-related Internet sites.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Engineers and scientists who answer wastewater-related questions via the NSFC’s assistance lines, (304) 293-4191 or (800) 624-8301.

DATABASES

Five databases are maintained by the NSFC, which provide information about all aspects of sewage treatment. Three of these databases can be searched online:

The Regulations Database contains copies of regulations for onsite wastewater treatment systems in 48 states. This collection can help customers seeking information for a particular state or those who want to compare regulatory structures between states.

The Bibliographic Database stores thousands of articles dealing with onsite and small community wastewater issues. Customers can search for a particular technology and receive the latest literature on the subject.

The Manufacturers and Consultants Database houses a list of industry contacts for wastewater products and consulting services. This database serves both as a reference for engineers, private citizens, and small community officials and a referral database for wastewater products and trade items.

The NSFC has two additional databases that will not go online due to the confidential nature of some information. These include:

The Facilities Database lists approximately 1,000 facilities using conventional, innovative, and alternative wastewater treatment technologies.

The Contacts and Referrals Database maintains a list of organizations involved in onsite and small community wastewater infrastructure at the national, state, and local levels.

To access the Facilities or Contacts and Referrals Databases, you may call the NSFC at (800) 624-8301 or (304) 293-4191 to request a search. An NSFC technical assistant will discuss the results with you to generate a list of desired articles, contacts, or other information as appropriate. Search results are made available upon request.

FREE and LOW-COST PRODUCTS
The 2002-2003 Wastewater Products Catalog provides a brief description of the NSFC’s more than 386 informational and educational products, including books, brochures design manuals, posters, videotapes, topical case studies, computer software, fact sheets, newsletters, and other materials which focus on small community wastewater treatment issues.

LISTSERV
The NSFC Listserv sends subscribers news releases about NSFC products or services. This notification service gives subscribers the opportunity to learn of NSFC activities and other information about sewage treatment options for homes and small community developments. Information is sent to subscribers via e-mail.

DISCUSSION GROUP ONLINE

Would you like to talk with others about wastewater issues? You can network with professionals and other individuals that have an interest in small community wastewater treatment through the NSFC’s online discussion group.
