Meeting Minutes – September 16, 2009
The Area 4 Information Management Advisory Committee met at 9:30 a.m.. on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, via the Elluminate web conferencing application.
Members in attendance were Regina Gardner of Jones County, David Morrison of Scotland County, and Susan Graham of the South Central DED’s office.
Adrian Gaskins, area information management agent, welcomed the group and announced personnel changes that will affect the structure of the advisory committee. He congratulated Susan Graham on her recent promotion to the SC district director’s office and David Morrison on his approaching retirement.
Gaskins provided an overview of area information management activities conducted so far during 2009. He told committee members about technology classes, the statewide virtual IT conference, and the development of evaluation instruments.
He then outlined upcoming activities and highlighted the roll out of new Mac equipment and accompanying training as the major project for the remaining months of the year.
Gaskins also discussed challenges he’s faced in recent months, including the pace of change and the budget restrictions that have limited his visits to counties.
Gaskins then requested input and feedback from committee members.
Morrison expressed that employees in the counties were understanding about the IM agents’ travel restrictions.
Graham expressed a need for better participation by employees in keeping information on county Extension web sites fresh and inviting. She recommended encouraging more involvement in updating county web sites. She noted some recent county use of outside applications, such as Facebook and Twitter to market Cooperative Extension, but stressed that county Extension web sites should remain a priority.
Graham also complimented the statewide virtual IT conference.
Also during the advisory meeting, committee members asked Gaskins questions about a campus technology security event, the Ask an Expert widget, and the sequential order of county Mac equipment installations.
Finally, Gaskins reminded members of the next advisory committee meeting, set for Tuesday, December 8, at 9:30 a.m.
After thanking committee members for their input and support, Gaskins adjourned the meeting at 10 a.m.
