**This is a reschedule of September 17th workshop that was postponed due to Hurricane Florence

This novel PLT course uniquely combines three elements to offer maximum depth and value: online prerequisite work introduces the participant to PLT at their leisure while the 6-hour in-person workshop focuses on direct engagement with the flagship PreK-8 curriculum guide plus the secondary module, Southeastern Forests and Climate Change. Participants will earn 10 hrs Criteria I credit in the NC EE Certification Program or 1.0 CEU. Please bring a bag lunch and dress appropriately to be outside for parts of the in-person workshop.

Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an interdisciplinary environmental education program designed for educators of ANY background. The hands-on activities facilitate the exploration topics at the intersection of our natural and built environments. The PreK-8 guide is correlated to the Common Core (math and ELA) as well as to the NC Essential Standards (science and social studies). This workshop will also feature the Southeastern Forests and Climate Change module, which investigates climate change impacts on southern forest ecosystems, the role of forests in sequestering carbon, and strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to changing climatic conditions. The module is designed for use in life science, environmental science, and agriculture courses in grades 9-12, with potential use in middle school or community college courses.

You will receive your online course code and directions soon after you register.  You must complete the online course work (2-4 hours at your convenience) before our in-person meeting on Monday, September 17th.  Both PLT curriculum guides are provided at no cost (a $45 value!) to participants through a partnership with the NC Forestry Association, however, pre-registration and a $25 workshop fee is required. Please make a personal commitment to attend to ensure there are enough materials and space for everyone. If you must cancel, please do so in a timely manner so someone else may take your place in the workshop. Cancellations before October 29 will receive a $10 refund. Cancellations after that date will not receive a refund.
