Description:

Spring is finally here, the plants are blooming, the weather is warming, and it’s time to get out and get planting! If you’ve always wanted to grow your own fruits and berries, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center has the class for you. Join us on Friday, May 14,2021 from 10:00 to noon as we tour our teaching orchard. We’ll cover variety and site selection, pruning, mulching, fertilizing and more! Plants covered will include: peaches, blueberries, grapes, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries.

This in-person, hand-on class will be limited in attendance due to current COVID-19 regulations. Participants must wear a mask throughout the duration of the class, and maintain 6ft distance between each other. With these regulations in mind, we will be offering the class in-person, for those who are comfortable with that, as well as online. The online version will include recordings from previous orchard classes, individual recordings of each fruit and berry covered in class, as well as all of the handouts covered in-person. These will be available as soon as you sign up for the online section of the class, so you’ll be ready to get planting! The in-person section will be held behind the Extension Office building at 120 Community Way in Barco and will be held rain or shine, so make sure to dress appropriately. If the in-person class has to be canceled for hazardous weather, an email will notify participants.

To sign up for our in-person or online class, head over to our Eventbrite signup page. Registration through Eventbrite will give you access to our online event page which will include additional publications related to class material, as well as short videos on orchard topics.

Currently, in-person events require masks to be worn for the duration of the event without exception. If you arrive without a mask one will be provided for you. We ask all participants to maintain six feet of distance while on the premises. We are following the current NC mandates. If you are not able to meet these requirements, or if you need accommodations for persons with disabilities please contact Adam Formella at (252) 232-2261 or by email at adam_formella@ncsu.edu no later than 10 business days prior to class.
