Description:

This course will cover the basic elements of safe chainsaw operation. Topics will include parts of a chainsaw, personal protective equipment (parts, proper fit, and importance, chainsaw maintenance, and chainsaw use). The first portion of the course will be in the classroom, and the afternoon will be spent in the woods, rain or shine. Check-in opens at 8:00 AM and the course will begin at 8:30. Registration for this workshop closes April 20, 2021, as seats are limited.

Register in advance and get more details on REPORTER.

This is an in-person course that will take place at NCSU Hill Forest in Bahama, NC. The address is 918 State Forest Rd, Bahama, NC 27503

Protective equipment (eye goggles, earplugs, leather gloves, chaps, and metal toe caps) and chainsaws will be available to borrow, but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have them. Please do not feel like you must purchase equipment for this workshop!  Many people find the information in this workshop helping in deciding what chainsaw or protective equipment to purchase. You will have the opportunity to start a chainsaw and cut slices, or "cookies" from logs if you feel comfortable, but it is not a requirement.

COVID-19 safety protocols will be strictly enforced, including distancing, mask-wearing, and sanitizing equipment between uses.

This workshop costs $10, which includes materials. You will need to bring your own lunch and wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and closed-toed shoes. Registration is required. Scholarships are available for those in need.

Contact Laurel Kays at (919) 513-2573 or lekays@ncsu.edu for questions.
