The Annual Apple Recipe Contest will be held August 30th this year at the First Citizens’ Plaza on Main Street in Hendersonville. As usual many generous merchants have provided prizes for the winners this year.

Any interested individual may enter the contest by submitting the Recipe Entry Form and written recipe to North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center, by August 25th. There are six categories in which recipes and finished products can be entered – Gluten Free, Breads, Pies and Pastries, Desserts, Kids and Professional.

The recipes must be original and not copyrighted. The type of apple used should be identified in the recipe, which should contain at least two cups of apples or one cup of applesauce.

Contestants will bring their completed product to the First Citizens’ Plaza on Friday, August 30th between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Judging will begin at 10:30 a.m. Judges this year will include some familiar Western North Carolina and Henderson County faces.

First and Second Place winners will be announced in each of the categories, with a Grand Prize going to the best entry overall, around noon, after judging is complete.

Check out the brochure for entry forms and a complete list of the rules and regulations. If you have questions, contact Renay Knapp, Extension Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences or Ivy Olson, Administrative Assistant, at (828) 697-4891.

Registration deadline is August 26.
