Description:

North Carolina Cooperative Extension is hosting the Northeast NC Livestock Field Day on May 21, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Tidewater Research Station in Plymouth, NC. Hands-on “in the field” and classroom topics that will be covered during the field day are:

· Introduction to pasture ecology

· Pasture plants – identification and management of weeds and forages

· Temporary and perimeter electric fencing for livestock

· Nutrient distribution techniques for pastures

· Troubleshooting electric fencing

· Pasture layout and design for rotational grazing

· USDA – FSA and NRCS - Livestock programs

Featured educators at the Field Day will be Dr. Matt Poore and Johnny Rogers with the Amazing Grazing Program, a pasture-based livestock statewide educational program. The three major themes of the Amazing Grazing Program are: Improved Profitability, Improved Animal Health and Well Being, and Improved Environmental Sustainability. Improving your ability to graze livestock more efficiently for an extended time each year benefits your operation in a number of ways. Grazing saves money spent making or buying hay. It also provides higher nutritional quality feed and improves animal well-being and handling ease when stock are rotated regularly onto different pastures. Grazing and pasture management also improves the environmental quality of your farm (including drought resistance) and the areas surrounding your pastures. Registration is required since lunch will be provided. You can register at this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/northeast-nc-livestock-field-day-tickets-875503022107, or by calling your local Extension Office.
