Hosta

The most common immobile insect on hosta is scale. The Florida wax scale is covered with a wet looking, whitish wax which is tinged in pink with some dark spots near the edges. Scales are found on the stems and leaves of hosta.Scales are hard to control as adults. The immature crawlers can be controlled with Orthene, Malathion or Insecticidal Soap. If you are not sure the crawlers are present, use one of the horticultural oils.
