Hardiness Zones: 4 to 7 (8). Heat Zone 9.

Habit: Clinging deciduous vine. Texture is medium.

Exposure/Culture: Sun or shade, rich, well drained soil. Pests - none serious. Prune - after bloom.

Height/Spread: True clinging vine, rootlike holdfasts (aerial roots). 40 to 50'; Growth rate slow to start, but quickens after establishment.

Foliage/Flower/Fruit: Opposite, simple, broad ovate leaves, 2 to 4" long; dark green, yellow fall color. White flowers in late spring to summer on horizontal shoots; 6 to 10" wide flat corymbs.

Cultivars: H. anomala has 3 to 6" long; 1 to 3" wide, elliptic-ovate, pointed leaves. Not as hardy as petiolaris and flower cluster more floppy.

Comments: Mature stems have peeling bark. Will attach to most any structure, brick, wood, masonry. Becomes heavy so needs ample support. Dirr says a good foru season plant with nice foliage, flower, and winter bark effect. Is it heat tolerant enouth for Wayne County?
