Hardiness Zones: 6 to 9

Habit: Evergreen vine with thin, wiry stems, becomes dense in sun. Texture is fine.

Exposure/Culture: Full sun to part shade; moist well drained soil; adaptable. Pests - none serious. Prune - after flowering.

Climbing Method/Spread: Twining, 10 to 20'; growth rate moderate to rapid.

Foliage/Flower/Fruit: Opposite, simple, oblong lanceolate leaves 1 to 3¾" long, dark green turning bronze green in winter. Yellow fragrant flowers, Feb. thru April.

Cultivars: 'Pride of Augusta' ('Plena') - double flowers

Comments: All parts of the plant are poisonous. Native, VA to FL, Texas to Central America; introduced 1640. State flower of SC. Used on mailboxes, trellises, ground cover, fences, downspouts. Tolerant of wind and drought.
