American Wisteria

Hardiness Zones: 5 to 9

Habit: Deciduous vine with medium texture.

Exposure/Culture: Sun, adapts to a variety of soils. Pests - none serious. Prune - flowers on current seasons growth.

Climbing Method /Spread: Twining; 20 to 30', growth rate is medium to fast.

Foliage/Flower/Fruit: Leaves are alternate, compound pinnate, 7 to 12" long with 9 to 15 leaflets, bright green. Pale lilac purple flowers, fragrant, 4 to 6" long racemes, June to August.

Cultivars: 'Amethyst Falls' - dark green foliage, lavender purple blooms. 'Nivea' - white flowers.

Comments: Native, Virginia to Florida to Texas, introduced 1724. More restrained than W. floribunda, Japanese Wisteria and W. sinensis, Chinese Wisteria
