Helliotrop

Native to the Southwest US, this state flower of Oklahoma is a tough, drought and heat tolerant annual plant. Plant in full sun in well drained soil; does not like clay soil. Pests-none serious. Grows 1 to 2' in height. Single daisy like flowers in red, yellow, or bicolored on erect stems; spring to frost. 'Yellow Sun' - bright yellow blooms, 'Red Plume' -solid red bloom. Look for G. x grandiflora hybrids like 'Goblin', 'Summer Kiss', 'Mandarin', and 'Fanfare' which you can plant as annuals or short lived perennials. "Fanfare' grows up to 14 inches tall and produces two-inch-wide flower heads, with velvety red centers and curling, deep pink trumpet-shaped petals that flare out yellow at the tips. Use as bedding plants, cut flowers, in containers or borders.
