Watauga Lawn & Garden Programs

About Our Lawn & Garden Programs

The consumer horticulture program of the Watauga County Cooperative Extension Center is designed to assist clientele with their home horticulture educational needs related to vegetables, ornamentals, fruit plants, and pest prevention and management.  Extension agents and trained Extension Master Gardener Volunteers are partners in reaching these needs of the public.  Area gardeners can utilize the expertise of the Extension staff in diagnosing plant problems and taking appropriate steps to prevent and deal with pests.  The Watauga Extension Center also accepts problem plant samples from home gardeners and commercial growers alike as well as helping to interpret soil test reports.

The Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a major educational emphasis of our consumer horticulture program with many active Master Gardener volunteers. Through these dedicated volunteers, we provide many different programs and services to the community. These include providing speakers for civic organizations and other groups, garden and beautification programs, class presentations, office support, and work with our 4-H programs.

Please contact Meghan Baker, Extension Agent, for more information on these programs.
