Fuquay Youth InitiativeProgram DescriptionThe Fuquay-Varina Youth Initiative targets middle school aged youth in the surrounding Fuquay-Varina area (Southern Wake County Region). FYI is designed to help youth develop their natural positive assets. The program focuses on recreation, enrichment, self-esteem, team-building, education, and community service activities as well as providing a safe and healthy environment for youth to socialize and develop their interests. The activities at FYI are voluntary for the youth in the program, which allows them to explore their interests and take advantage of what FYI has to offer. Some examples include: assisting at local food pantry, tutoring elementary youth, internships with local businesses, guitar lessons, pottery lessons, basic food preparation and cooking classes, sewing lessons, athletic lessons, newsletter development and writing, and educational assistance. FYI has developed a Youth Advisory Counsel (YAC) that helps youth have an active role in deciding the activities and ultimately take ownership of the program. Additionally, FYI has 2-4 paid staff that are supplemented by various community volunteers to help the FYI program run it’s daily operations.Program Hours2:30pm - 6:00pm Monday - Friday, during school year, 12:00pm - 6:00pm teacher workdays, and 7:30pm - 6:00pm summer and vacation HoursProgram Fees$10.00 per year.
