The Transylvania County Cooperative Extension Service is offering a series of classes on successful home vegetable gardening. We will be presenting on a wide range of topics appropriate for the home gardener, particularly those new to gardening. Classes will be held on Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Community Services Building conference room 98 East Morgan St., Brevard, with hands in the soil opportunities at a nearby demonstrations garden. The scheduled topics are:
- February 25th- Planning your garden: location and size, soil testing, soil amendments
- March 4th- Variety selection, seeding and getting transplants started
- March 18th- Growing cold tolerant greens and what to do with them in the kitchen
- April 1st- Pest control in the garden Part 1: “Natural” and organically accepted pest control
- April 15th- Pest control in the garden Part 2: Conventional wisdom on garden pest control
- April 29th- Weed control methods
- May 13th- Herbs and edible landscaping
- June 3rd- Amazing tomatoes and peppers
- June 16th- Permaculture techniques
- July 1st- Great meals right from the garden
