WHAT IS 4-H?
Four-H is a learn by doing educational program that helps youth
establish real life goals and enables them to grow into productive,
competent citizens of tomorrow.
WHO CAN JOIN 4-H?
Any boy or girl 5-19 years of age, regardless of race, sex,
disability, color, national origin or religion may join 4-H by
agreeing to work on a project and follow 4-H ideas and standards.
Youth 5-8 years of age may participate in 4-H through a Cloverbud
Program.
WHEN AND WHERE DOES 4-H
MEET?
Most clubs prefer to meet once a month, although some do meet more
often. The meet place varies such as homes, community buildings or
church buildings. Special activities and programs are often held in
the meeting room of the Scotland County Center of the North
Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
HOW DOES 4-H WORK?
Four-H is a cooperative effort between the county government, the
North Carolina Cooperative
Extension Service, North Carolina
State University and North
Carolina A&T State University, and the U.S. Department of
Agriculture. It is volunteer based and supervised by a professional
staff.
WHY JOIN 4-H?
Four-H offers opportunities for youth and adults to develop self
esteem and experience feelings of success and achievement. There
are county, district, state, and national awards available.
Trophies, bonds, ribbons, pins, certificates, partial scholarships
toward trips and college scholarships ranging from $400 -$4,000 are
just some of the incentives offered by 4- H.
