Administrative Competency Indicator (ACI) - Help Aid

The Administrative Competency Indicator Online Assessment System is designed to allow you to evaluate which administrative competencies you feel you are strongest and weakest in. The assessment is based around a competency model and proficiencies developed through a benchmarking study completed by a think tank of highly successful County Extension Directors. Your answers to the assessment and the feedback report you received is considered confidential. No one except your ACI Certified Facilitator and the assessment system administrators will have access to your feedback.


When taking the assessment, you should answer based on your current strengths and not what you wish your strengths were or what you feel your current role expects your strengths to be. This assessment is meant to be used for personal discovery. As this is a self-assessment and is not cognitive, it is not effective to compare individual's scores other than to denote joint areas needed for personal development. Your ACI Certified Facilitator may provide you with normative data that may be useful as well.

Follow the instructions below to complete the ACI instrument:

  1. Type in http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/pods/ACI/ in your browser's address bar. This will take you to the ACI homepage, which looks like the following:

  2. In order to take the instrument, you will need to register first. Click here to go to the registration page.

  3. On the registration page, enter information in all fields. Please note that all fields are required. Finally, click the Submit button. If you entered all required information, you will be redirected to a confirmation page, which looks like the following figure:

  4. On successful registration, you will also receive a confirmation email. The email will contain your username and password, which you need to use to log in and take the instrument.

  5. In order to log into the system, you can either:
  6. On the login page, enter the username and password, which were emailed to you, and click the Login button. On the following page, click on Start to take the instrument.

  7. After you complete the instrument, you will immediately be able to see your assessment report. However, you can see this report any time you want to by logging in on the homepage.

  8. If you ever forget your login password, click on the "Forget your password?" link on the homepage. You will be redirected to a page which looks like the following figure:

  9. In the textbox above, enter your email address and click "Send my passsword" button. Your password will be emailed to you.
