Tyson Scholarship

Sponsored by James E. Tyson

The Tyson Scholarship is a $500 scholarship provided by James E. Tyson (the inventor of the Tyson Flow Divider) to assist local health department employees by helping them attend this leading edge conference. The scholarship helps to pay for the registration fee, travel, meals, lodging, and other expenses.

The scholarship recipient must attend the entire On-Site Conference, participate in the recognition luncheon, and successfully complete a brief plan for sharing the information learned at the conference with others in their local health department and /or community.

The 1999 Tyson Scholarship is awarded to:

Timothy D. Burch

Clay County Health Department

Tim was awarded the scholarship based on his answers to the following two questions:

1. How would receiving this scholarship serve as an incentive for improving the environmental health program in your county?

The scholarship would allow me to attain knowledge valuable to our county. I could bring back new technology to be used in our environmental health program and improve our program's ability to design and inspect septic systems.

2. How will you share what you learn at the conference with co-workers and other professionals such as installers, realtors, and Board of Health members in the county?

We would have staff members, installers, realtors, Board of Health members, and developers attend seminars covering material learned at this conference. One-on-one discussions would also be utilized to help educate interested parties.

Please address any questions to Dr. David Lindbo.
