Preface

The conference theme is “Theory and Practice of On-Site Wastewater.” We expect this year’s conference
to be one of the best yet as we bring the most experienced and brightest experts to you as our conference
speakers. The conference focuses upon the theory and practice of what a field practitioner needs to know.
New information is covered not only from the theoretical point of-view, but also from the viewpoint of
providing field practitioners with new skills and knowledge that they can take to their jobs right away.
In keeping with this theme, our conference starts Tuesday morning (April 24) with a plenary opening session
titled “Turning Wastewater Theory Into Practice.” The McKimmon Center portion of the conference concludes
late Wednesday afternoon with a closing session dedicated to “New Rules and Directions for the Wastewater
State-of-Practice.” Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning provide targeted information for each aspect of
the industry. Tuesday afternoon’s concurrent sessions include: Soils and Siting, Engineering and Design and
Student Paper Competition. Wednesday morning’s concurrent sessions cover topics such as: Remote System
Monitoring and Operation, System Function and Performance Evaluations and Volunteered Papers. This year’s
conference concludes with seven field options on Thursday (April 26) held in four different counties. Topics
include Soils and Siting, Design Issues, Installation, Pretreatment Technologies, and Public Education.
