Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center June 12-17, 2005

The Person County 4-H Program took 15 youth to camp this summer. Youth participated in a wide variety of activities this summer while attending camp. It was the first year for many of the youth and for some, it may have been their only experience at camp. Some of the activities included: horseback riding, rock climbing, swimming, canoeing, archery, crafts, etc. On Monday night, they went around to different stations where one of the international staff counselors would talk about their country and their culture. On Tuesday night, the kids had the opportunity to get up and perform in the Talent Show. On Thursday night, we had a dance, slideshow and campfire. These kids will cherish these memories for a long time and will continue the friendships they made. This year's counselors made the youth feel like part of a family. Even though many of the counselors this year were fairly young, they did an excellent job relating to the youth. Many of the youth looked up to their counselors as role models. It takes a really special person to be a camp counselor for all summer long. They may have come from all over, but they did a great job working together and making this week one to remember.
