Onslow County

Constructed Wetlands
Project (2)

Two wetland cells were constructed around three sides of the former lagoon, rather like giant "C"s. The cells covered a total of eight acres of land. As the insides of the cells were created, soil was packed around the perimeter to form the berms. Because of the large size of the cells, it is difficult to see that the bottom of the cells is more than five feet lower than the tops of the berms. The two people in the above photo are standing the same distance away from the camera; one is in the wetland cell, the other is on the berm.
