Low Pressure Pipe
(LPP) Systems

Low pressure pipe (LPP) systems require a septic tank, pump tank, and sprayfield. These systems also require a homeowner to have a maintenance contract with a certified subsurface wastewater operator. The systems need to have periodic inspections that check system performance. Copies of the inspection sheets are filed with the health department.

Homeowners can become their own certified operators. They are required to take specific classes and pass an exam offered by the Water Pollution Controll Systems Operator Certification Commission (WPCSOCC). Once certified, operators are required to periodically take continuing education classes. Information about LPP is available at the NCDENR OSWW Design Aids website.

This site is used for Continuing Education Training. To make it more challenging, several of the LPP lines have intentional problems. It is the students' task to determine what is wrong with the system. The lines are installed in such a way that the lines can be switched, so the same location may not have the same "problem" the next time a student comes through the class.
