The conventional drainfield is the simplest, least expensive method for effluent treatment and dispersal. The effluent goes from the septic tank to the distribution box (D-box). From there, the effluent is sent to each of the drainlines. Equal flow to each line is very important. Problems occur when the D-box is damaged or tilted, such that flow becomes unequal. The trench that gets the heavier flow runs the risk of hydraulic overloading....and failure.
