Secondary Modules
The
Focus on Forests module helps
students understand the complexity of environmental issues by using forest-related
examples. This module teaches students to examine issues objectively and present
clear arguments. By applying these skills, students can become with decision
making processes and play a role in forest management.
Hands-on
experiences are used to show the interrelationships between waste generation,
natural resource use, and waste disposal in the Municipal
Solid Waste module. Eight activities guide students
through waste management strategies while providing information to make well
informed decisions concerning waste management issues.

Critical
thinking, problem solving, and decision making are skills that help students
explore different aspects of environmental and human health risks that affect
their everyday lives with the Focus on Risk
module. In addition to the activities, there are three Special Topics that
encourage students to apply their new knowledge to actual risk ssues.
The
Forest Ecology module examines
ecological systems, interdependencies, and development of forests. Students
will develop critical thinking skills while making decisions about forestry
issues. This module contains a special section on Fire
Ecology.
All communities – urban, suburban, small town, rural – are experiencing growth and change, which has an impact on each community's environment and its inhabitants sense of place. PLT's newest module, The Places We Live, provides educators with a useful tool for place-based education to help create a bond
between young citizens and their communities.
Project Learning Tree also is in the process of
developing additional modules on air quality, forests of the world,
