CALL RENEE (919-515-5518) TO SCHEDULE A WORKSHOP FOR
10 OR MORE TEACHERS OR OTHER YOUTH EDUCATORS --
CEU RENEWAL CREDITS AVAILABLE!

To receive a PLT activity guide, educators must attend a six (6) hour PLT professional development workshop. The guides are not available for purchase. Those attending a six (6) hour workshop and seeking a full 1.0 CEU renewal credit OR North Carolina Environmental Education Certification must do the homework assignment. The homework assignment requires an additional four (4) contact hours by preparing and presenting a PLT activity to a group and sending in the homework form. Those that attend a 10 hour workshop will receive their credit forms at the conclusion of the workshop. Questions may be directed to the facilitator of your workshop, or call 919-515-5518.

##This workshop will focus on the PreK-8 Activity Guide (Thursday, Dec 3rd) and the secondary module, Places We Live (Friday, Dec 4th). Participants may choose to attend both days OR just Thursday or Friday. Please specify what days you will be attending when registering. CEU credits will be available for those that attend Thursday (6 contact hours with homework) or Thursday and Friday (10 contact hours). CEU credits will not be available for Friday only participation. EE Certification credits are as follows: Criteria I 6.0 Hours for PLT PreK-8 on Thursday, Criteria I 10.0 Hours for PLT PreK-12 for Thursday and Friday, or Criteria III 4.0 Hours for PLT Places We Live.

^^ This workshop will focus on the secondary (high school) module titled The Changing Forest: Forest Ecology. This will be the only guide that participants will receive, however at the conclusion of the workshop participants will receive a form to order the other six secondary modules available from Project Learning Tree. Please dress for the weather, as a good portion of this workshop will take place outside. Teachers can recieve CEU renewal credits and this workshop would count in Criteria I, II, or III for EE Certification.

** The world’s forests are a natural resource we all share and cherish.  Forests provide many important environmental services as well as a multitude of useful products.  Clearly the rich diversity of forest ecosystems helps to sustain life all over the planet.  This PLT secondary module provides both formal and nonformal educators with a series of activities to help students explore their connections to the forests of the world.  In addition to discovering fun forest activities, participants will have the opportunity to explore the lowland arboretum at Prairie Ridge Ecostation, where representative trees from across NC are planted.  We’ll finish out the workshop with a field trip to the Living Conservatory, a dry tropical forest habitat at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.   Workshop, tours, and materials are provided free of charge. This module is great for those studying world geography and cultures!!!

++The Sustainable Forestry Teachers’ Academy is a four-day residential program that focuses on the social, economic, and environmental aspects of sustainable forestry.  Teachers will visit a variety of forests and mills learning about forest management and the manufacturing of various wood products such as paper, furniture, plywood and lumber.  Teachers participate in tours and hikes in forests under a variety of ownership and management plans.  Excursions to museums, state forests, experimental forests, and environmental learning centers round out the experience.

Participants should expect a fast-paced week, with extended moderate walking, great food, networking, and lots of fun! In addition, extensive materials and discussions prepare participants to transfer what they have learned back to the classroom.  Meals, lodging, and transportation during the Academy are provided, however participants are required to submit a $100 deposit, which will be returned upon arrival.  CEU renewal credits will be awarded. Multiple teachers from the same school, and teachers of all disciplines, are encouraged to apply!  This opportunity is available only for teachers associated with a school district, non-formal educators do not qualify.  Questions?  Contact Renee at 919-515-5518 or renee_strnad@ncsu.edu.
