Tom Ballard serves as the Director of the Partnerships Directorate for UT-Battelle, the managing contractor for Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Partnerships Directorate oversees ORNL’s efforts in technology transfer, economic development, and industrial and educational partnerships. Ballard joined UT-Battelle in July 2004 after serving The University of Tennessee for 35 years, most recently as Vice President for Public and Governmental Relations. During his tenure at UT, he led the Institute for Public Service, which for years has been recognized as one of the nation’s premier programs focused on helping local governments and manufacturers. Ballard serves on the board of directors of a large number of regional organizations and is a member of the Southern Technology Council. He is a graduate of UT with a bachelor's degree in communications and was the 2001 recipient of the College’s Hileman Outstanding Alumni Award. He also received the prestigious Tennessee Valley Corridor Champion award in 2005.
