Congratulations
to Dr. James Gregory
Jim Gregory has now officially retired from his
FEOP water quality workshops. His courses at NCSU and professional
workshops, started in 1997, have been the training benchmark for stream
identification and wetland delineation in North Carolina for nearly 2
decades. In addition, his close association with the NC Division of
Water Quality and the US Army Corps of Engineers has kept his
training courses the most rigorous offered in our region. Now Jim moves
into the private consulting world, and his new beach house on the coast!
But, for FEOP, Dr. Gregory's shoes are just too big to fill at the
present time. We plan to develop a new set of forest hydrology and water
quality modules, through the NCDWQ in the coming year. Stay tuned for
news about future stream and wetland courses in 2012. But if you just can't wait,
Dr. Gregory recommends the courses provided by the Wetland Training
Institute, http://www.wetlandtraining.com/
Non-native Invasive Plants Summits Announced
The NC Division of Forest Resources has teamed up with FEOP
to offer 6 non-native invasives (NNI) forest plants workshops for forest
landowners and managers. These "summits" will be held regionally beginning in
August 2011 and continuing through May 2012. The workshops will be single day events
with speakers, exhibitors, lunch, CFEs, and lots of good information
on the identification and management of NNI plants in our state. Thanks to a
grant from the USDA Forest Service, there will be no charge to attend
these workshops, however there is a $15 handling fee for CFEs and pesticide credits. Advance registration is required. For more
information visit the web page at http://www.ncsu.edu/feop/NNI/
FEOP Webinar Series
The new FEOP webinar series kicks off April 13, 2011 with a
1-hour program on Soils. Another 1.5-hour webinar is scheduled for June 15th on forest mapping using Google Earth. Participation in webinars
costs $15, payable by credit card or check. Webinars
will offer SAF CFE credits. Webinar
techology will be integrated into the current teleconference format
through the end of calendar year 2011. Starting in 2012 webinar delivery
will be used for all of FEOP's distance learning events, including
3-hour teleconferences. This will enable participation from any
computer, at home, at the office, or in one of the teleconference
locations around the state. For more details, visit the FEOP webinar web
page at www.ncsu-feop.org
