The North Carolina Chapter of The Wildlife Society (NCTWS)
created the Susan Sharpe Memorial Scholarship for the Fur, Fish, ‘n Game
Rendezvous. NCTWS is seeking donations
to establish an endowment in Susan’s memory.
The scholarship will annually send one youth from south-central North
Carolina to the Fur, Fish, ‘n Game Rendezvous held at Millstone 4-H Center in
Richmond County.
Susan passed away in October 2005 after a battle with cancer. Susan’s husband, Terry, has long been an actively involved member of NCTWS. Susan was involved in NCTWS Russian Exchange program, and accompanied Terry on several trips to Russia. She remained a strong supporter of the Russian Exchange program, and other NCTWS activities throughout her illness. She was particularly interested in supporting the development of opportunities for youth near her home in Richmond County and would often visit Millstone with Terry during The Rendezvous.
The Fur, Fish, ‘n Game Rendezvous is an annual, week-long
overnight camping experience for youth ages 12-15, held at Millstone 4-H Center
in Richmond County. The Rendezvous
exposes youth to many facets of the enjoyment and wise management of wildlife,
and is intended to spark an interest in youth to pursue a wildlife career or
avocation. North Carolina Cooperative Extension
sponsors The Rendezvous, along with numerous other partners including NCTWS
members.
This scholarship will be used to help defray the costs for a
deserving south-central North Carolina youth to attend The Rendezvous. NCTWS hopes to raise an endowment of $10,000
to generate perpetual interest to support this scholarship, and supplement this
with annual fund raising as needed.
Checks can be made out to NCTWS with “Susan Sharpe
Endowment” written in the memo field.
Donations can be sent to NCTWS, PO Box 27742, Raleigh, NC 27627.
An acknowledgement of your contribution will be sent to the Sharpe
family.
