Montgomery County has 2 agents who work in the Family and Consumer Science area. Susan Hamilton, County Extension Director, has responsibility for Nutrition and Food Safety; Housing; Clothing and the Extension and Community Association. The second position, which we share with Moore County, covers the areas of Human Development and Family Resource Management. Karen M. Wicker Extension Agent, Family & Consumer Education has these responsibilities.
A special family nutrition program is called Out for Lunch. Marisela Rodriguez is the Adult Program Assistant who gives leadership to the program. Out for Lunch is primarily for food stamp eligible parents and Senior Citizens. Each series of classes is four weeks long.
Strengthening families is a major goal of the Family and Consumer Education programs of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. These programs focus on preventative education and provide knowledge needed by families to improve their quality of life. Cooperative Extension offers unbiased, research based information to assist families in making difficult decisions.
