There is a new chainsaw starting technique that everyone should try to learn. Soren Eriksson, chainsaw expert, has developed a new technique that he teaches in his chainsaw production and safety schools. It has all of the advantages of the "drop start" and "throwing system" without the danger and loss of control that these methods have. Here are the steps:

Grasp the front handle of the chainsaw handle with your left hand on the upper left corner at a point in line with the starter rope.
Place the rear handle between your upper legs - just behind and above your right knee. Hold it firmly to keep it from moving by using your legs as a clamp. Check for clearance between pants and chain. Do not use with bow bar!
Use your right hand to pull the starter rope in a short, quick action.

Although starting chainsaws on the ground with your foot placed in the rear handle is also a good system, most chainsaw users have a thousand excuses why they will not do it. This new technique is a fast and safe alternative that can be used while standing upright. TRY IT - YOU'LL LIKE IT!
