North Carolina Cooperative Extension is based at North Carolina's two land-grant institutions, NC State University and NC A&T State University, in all 100 counties and on the Cherokee Reservation. Jones County recently held a "Kick Off" for the Voluntary Agricultural District Program. Thirty people assembled to hear Maximilian Merrill who is an Environmental Programs Specialist with NCDS&CS talk about farm preservation programs in North Carolina. Paul Yommer with the Jones County Tax Office was on hand to demonstrate the Jones County GIS/Mapping website and Doris Bell, a local realtor, gave a prespective from the Real Estate side. The Jones County VAD Board was introduced and they are as follows: Abbott Meadows, Alexander Toodle, Trent Scott, Ike Sanderson, Anthony Lee, Franklin Andrews, and Golonda Howard. The program is designed to promote and educate the importance of agriculture among the public.
