2009 4-H Sweets and Treats Contest

     
     

What is it?

The purpose of the Sweets and Treats Contest is to provide a fun event for youth to:

                        1.         Build basic skills in food preparation.
                        2.         Provide Refreshments for Achievement Program
                        3.         Develop leadership talents, and self-confidence in exhibiting.

Divisions:                 NON-COMPETITIVE 5-8
                                  JUNIOR DIVISION 9-10, 11-12
                                 SENIOR DIVISION 13-15, 16 & UP
                                 (Determine Division by 4-H'ers Age as of January 1, 2009.)

We are looking for Dessert Type Items and/or Finger Foods for eating after items are judged. Judging will take place during the Achievement Program. Items will be divided into categories based on what is brought to the contest.

What do I have to do?

1.    YOU ONLY HAVE TO PREPARE THE SWEET OR TREAT.

2.    Bring 2 copies of the Recipe for food exhibited. PLEASE TYPE or PRINT NEATLY on 3 X 5 or 5 X 8 card.  Include name of food, your name, club and number of servings and any nutritional information you have about the favorite food.  We will be collecting one recipe to put on our web site and for a future County 4-H Cookbook.

3.    Appropriate serving dish and utensil labeled for easy return.

4.    Prepare your favorite food and bring it with you to the Johnston County Extension Office.  Items should arrive no later than 1:30PM. They will be judged while we are in the achievement program. Awards will be announced at the end.

5.    We will provide utensils for the judges.  There will be no questions or other presentation. Sweets and Treats Contest judging will be strictly based on appearance and taste.

6.    The Favorite Food should be basically prepared at home, but last minute preparations may be done at the office.  A microwave will be on hand for reheating. No other preparation will be allowed at the Extension Office.

7.   Each contestant will do his/her own preparation, exhibiting and clean up.

8.   Sweets and Treats will be shared with everyone attending Achievement program as an informal reception after Achievement Program.


Awards:

**1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category for each age group will receive: 4-H Item and Ribbon

 

WHAT TO BRING:    Food Item in serving container with utensil and 2 Copies of recipe.
