Youth & 4-H 4-H is the youth development program of Cooperative Extension. 4-H offers clubs, special interest programs, summer camps and school enrichment. Guided by staff and adult and teen volunteers, 4-H'ers gain knowledge, skills and experience that help them become responsible citizens and leaders. Keep track of the progress at the Swannanoa 4-H Educational Center. Support our Henderson County youth who will be going to national competitions! Make a tax-deductible contribution to the Young Natrualists 4-H Club or purchase a $1 raffle ticket for a basket. Provide ongoing support for youth through the Armstrong-Smith 4-H Endowment! Be sure to visit the "4-H Village" at Farm City Day, Saturday, October 4, in Jackson Park, from 10:00 - 4:00. 4-H clubs will have activities for youth. Bring gently used coats to donate to needy people. We will be giving out Red Oak Seedlings to plant to help improve our environment. Dress up like a scarecrow, and enter the Scarecrow Contest! (Go to the Parks and Rec. building - brick house at the top of the hill - at 9:15 to enter this contest.) Or prepare scarecrows for Scarecrow Row! For more information, call 697-4891. Posted September 5th, 2008 in Youth & 4-H The 4-H Deliciously Healthy Bake-Off Challenge has arrived!  We will launch this new contest on Saturday, November 15.  Recipes are due by October 31.  The focus of the contest is great taste and healthy choices in baking.  Registration forms and complete contest rules are available at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center (in Jackson Park). ... MORE 4-H Creative Gardening Winners Posted August 20th, 2008 in Youth & 4-H Garden volunteers Chris Bright and Tony Slovacek supervised the 4-H Creative Gardening Contest this year.  Participants chose the theme of  "Native American Gardens."  Consumer Horticulture Agent, Diane Turner, taught them about garden design.  Each gardener researched one Native American Tribe or Nation, and selected vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers, and at least one decorative item related to that group.  Then each participant's garden design was approved by the garden volunteers.  These volunteers also visited ...
