BECOMING A MASTER GARDENER VOLUNTEER
Master Gardener Volunteers receive 30-40 hours of training in
home gardening in preparation for volunteer service (one hour of
service to be given for each hour of training). The program is
open to all Harnett Countians who would like to increase their
gardening skills and knowledge and share what they have learned
with others. The class is taught at the Harnett County Office
Building, 102 East Front St., Lillington, NC. A fee is charged
to cover educational materials. Call 910-893-7534 for
information about the next available class (space may be
limited).
CLASS FORMAT:
Speakers including Extension Agents, area gardeners, and NCSU
specialists.
Field trips to public as well as private gardens.
Hands-on experience
TOPICS INCLUDE:
Vegetable gardening
Fruit production
Lawn management
Landscaping
Pesticide safety
and more!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Providing research based gardening information to residents of
Harnett County
Speaking to community organizations
Community horticulture projects
PREVIOUS MASTER GARDENER PROJECTS
Installing and maintaining demonstration turf plots at Harnett
County Office Building.
Providing temporary gardening services to the incapacitated.
Demonstration flower landscaping at the Angier Public
Library.
Demonstration gardening to the Harnett County Public School
system.
