How to Join

The Master Gardener Program is a forty-six-state national program with over 15,000 trained volunteers who work in partnership with their county Cooperative Extension Service office to extend information throughout the community.

Master Gardeners Volunteers of Guilford County are part of the volunteer staff of North Carolina State University's Cooperative Extension Service in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  They provide unbiased, research-based educational assistance and programs in horticulture and environmental issues to the gardening public.  For details about the State program, which has a Master Gardener Program in most counties, visit the web site for the NC State Consumer Horticulture Master Gardener Program.  Continue reading for details specific to the Guilford County Master Gardener Program.

Master Gardener Volunteers are citizens trained in horticulture to help Guilford County to practice Best Management Practices (BMPs) in the landscape, vegetable gardens, and turf areas through proper use  of pesticides, fertilizers, plant selection, and water usage.  When citizens follow these BMPs, they receive the following benefits:

Water quality is improved.

Water is conserved.

Air quality is improved.

Fresh food can be grown at home.

Property values are increased.

Our surroundings are enhanced by the natural beauty of plants.

People can save money by cutting costs.
