Member of Parksville Ruritan Club, served as Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-President, and President. Past Director.
Member of Perquimans County Democratic Party. Served as Precinct Chair. Charter President of Perquimans County Young Democrats. Served on Jim Hunt for Governor county committee during his first two terms and served as a member of the county finance committee for Jim Hunt.
Member of Perquimans County Farm Bureau, served on Board of Directors for eight years. Served as Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Perquimans County Young Farmers and Ranchers. Served three years on the State Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Advisory Committee.
Served on Perquimans County Agricultural Extension's Advisory Council for field crops.
Member of Bear Swamp Hunt Club and 4-Mile Desert Hunt Club.
Worked part-time with Swindell Funeral Home, 1964-1992.
Served as Chairman of Perquimans County Board of Elections since 1992.
Member of the North Carolina Association of County Agricultural Agents.
Distinguished Service Award Presented by the Perquimans County JC's, 1976.
Selected as an Outstanding Young Man of America, 1979.
Recognized by the NCJC's as a nominee for the Five Outstanding Young Men of N.C. Award for 1976.
Recognized by the NCJC's as a nominee for the Outstanding Young Farmer of N.C. Award for 1977 and 1978.
Outstanding Young Farmer Award Presented by Perquimans County JC's 1977.
Fireman of the year for Outstanding Service presented by Winfall Volunteer Fire Department, 1979.

native).
