Coordination and Funding
This website, Trees and Local Regulations in North Carolina (formerly entitled Ordinances, Laws, Regulations, and Programs Affecting Forestry in North Carolina), is the product of a project coordinated by faculty and staff in the Department of Forestry in the North Carolina State University College of Natural Resources and the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics in the North Carolina State University College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
Funding for this project has been provided by the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources' Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program.
Title Change
The title of this website was recently changed in June 2008 to reflect the understanding that the information provided on this website may benefit not only nonindustrial private forestlandowners and foresters (the original project focus) — but other groups as well including local governments, planners, developers, and arborists.
Purpose
The primary purpose of this project is to collect, analyze, and post regulatory and other information that pertains to forest management activities on nonindustrial, private forestland (NIPF). This site is expected to serve nonindustrial private forestland owners, forestry consultants, cooperative extension personnel, local government officials, and others responsible for consulting and advising NIPF landowners regarding forest management activities that occur within the county or municipal jurisdictions that have regulatory authority over such practices.
