NC State University Tomato Cultivars and Breeding Lines

Numerous named cultivars and breeding lines have been released from the program (See Restrictions Pertaining to Cultivar and Breeding Line Releases below). Most of the named cultivars have been released on an exclusive basis to a single seed company for seed production and sales. Royalties from seed sales come back to NC State University with a portion being used to support the breeding program.

Trial samples of all cultivars and breeding lines are available at no charge to interested tomato breeders. Breeding lines released in recent years require completion of a Seed Transfer Agreement prior to seed being sent. Other lines are available on request without a written agreement. However, many of the lines require a Hybrid Parental Use Agreement, with royalties paid, for use as parents in hybrids for commercial seed production and sales.

Descriptions of the cultivars and breeding lines are included in the Release Notices linked below and on the Lines Requiring a Seed Transfer Agreement (Seed Lines) page. Also, descriptions are available in the HortScience articles listed in the Publications section. The HS# designation refers to the publication number on the list.

Use of the following in production of F₁ hybrid seed for sale requires approval by and negotiated royalty payments to the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service.

Recipients of the following tomato lines are required to submit a signed Tomato Seed Transfer Agreement prior to receiving seed.

Use of the following in production of F₁ hybrid seed for sale is non-restricted. Acknowledgement of use (specific hybrid combination does not have to be identified) is requested.

Production of seed for sale of the following open-pollinated cultivars is restricted exclusively to the seed company indicated.

Production of seed for sale of the following F₁ hybrid combinations or their reciprocal crosses is restricted exclusively to the seed company indicated.

Mountain Pride F1 hybrid seed production and sales are non-restricted. Release Notice / HS #1
