Food Guide Pyramid Jeopardy

Submitted by Kathryn Naylor, Burke County

Purpose

  • To help participants better learn the food guide pyramid. This activity is also a good evaluator for the instructor to see where he/she needs to improve in his/her teaching.

Objective

  • Particpants will work together to answer questons on the board to receive points. The team with the most points wins.

Time

  • 20 minutes

Materials Needed

  • Exhibit board
  • Laminated questions for each of the Food Guide Pyramid groups in the amounts of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500
  • Pencil and paper to keep score

Preparation

  • Have the participants take a 5 - 10 minute break so you can arrange game pieces on display board. First put up the categories (food groups). Then place the questions underneath in order of 100-500.

Activity

  • Separate participants into 2 - 3 teams depending on size of group.
  • Toss a coin to determine which team goes first.
  • Let the first team pick a category and points. Ask the question on the back of the laminated card. Only the team that picked the question can answer. If they get it wrong the other team will have the opportunity to answer. The team answering receives the points.
  • Whoever has the most points at the end of the game is the winner.
