Healthy Food Squares

Purpose

  • Pre-test or Post-test

Objective

  • To assess participants' knowledge of foods and nutrition. OR
  • To assess participants' retention of information presented during the OFL/EFNEP series.

Time

  • 25 minutes

Materials Needed

  • Display BoardSquares with X's and O's written on them
  • Strips of paper or cloth to make a tic-tac-toe grid
  • Set of Healthy Food Squares questions

Preparation

  • Prepare tic-tac-toe board and question cards

Activity

  • Divide participants into two teams. Determine who will be X's and who will be O's. Toss a coin to see which team will go first.
  • Ask the question. Team members may discuss question before giving answer. If the team answers correctly they choose where to put their game piece (X or O). If the team answers incorrectly you may choose to give the opposing team the opportunity to place their game piece OR have them try to answer OR ask an entirely new question to the team.
  • Alternate between teams until one team has three in a row (tic-tac-toe). You may want to have several questions ready.
  • In the event of a tie you may choose to have a tie breaker question or play another game.The winning team receives a skill builder.
