Submitted by Kathryn Naylor, Burke County

Purpose

  • For participants to have fun while reviewing the Food Guide Pyramid.

Objective

  • Participants will work as a team to climb the Food Guide Pyramid with the information they learned in Session 1 of OFL.

Time

  • 10 minutes

Materials Needed

  • Food Guide Pyramid visual
  • Climb the Pyramid questions

Preparation

  • None

Activity

  • Divide participants into two groups (Teams A and B).
  • Toss a quarter to see who goes first (the team winning the toss will be considered Team A).
  • Each team will only have one question to get right for each food group. Therefore it is imperative that the instructor explain the importance of teamwork before the start of the game.
  • Starting with the Bread, Cereal, Rice, and Pasta group give Team A the question.
  • If they give the correct response they will earn a point. If not, they will have to move on to the next food group when it becomes their turn again.
  • Continue to "Climb the Pyramid." The Team with the most points wins!

Many of the questions have been taken from the National Pork Producers Council on the world wide web at www.npcc.org.
