field plots at MHCRS

Estimated wholesale value of ornamental crops (greenhouse/nursery) topped 832 million dollars in 2004, making this industry the largest and fastest growing horticultural segment in North Carolina. Research and Extension programs here are addressing aspects of production, culture, evaluation, and improvement of nursery crops for North Carolina. A particular focus is on the selection and development of pest resistant plants for more sustainable landscapes. Projects have been successful in developing more efficient production practices, reduced environmental impacts, and new pest resistant plants.
