The Currituck County 4-H program will be sponsoring a workshop entitled "Government Is Us" for youth ages 12 & up beginning on September 16 from 5-7 pm at the Extension office. The program is designed to help youth gain a clearer understanding of how public policy is addressed and to help them get an up-close and personal view of county government. Additional dates have been set for: October 8, November 5, December 10 and December 16. All meetings will begin at 4pm at the Currituck Extension office. On September 16 as well as December 16, the youth will attend County Commissioner's Meetings.
The goal of the program is to help young people develop the attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary to be active citizens and practice what they learn in their local communities. Youth will attend two meetings of the Board of Commissioners, have a personal visit and Q&A with one of the commissioners, and have the opportunity to present a petition they write to the commissioners. Youth will enjoy fun with friends while learning how to be active citizens.
