Animal Health From The Ground UP
Thursday, Feb 14, 2013 12:00pm – 4:00pm — 1 month awayWhere: 1140 Moon Lindley Road, Snow Camp, NC 27349 (Map)
Lindale Farms will be hosting one of the two On Farm Workshops offered in conjunction with the 2013 Organic Commodities and Livestock Conference.
Join farmer Neill Lindale, agronomist Mark Kopecky and veterinarian Hubert Karreman for a practical discussion of a soil-based approach to achieving animal health.
Lindale Farms is owned and managed by Neill Lindley, who began transitioning his conventional dairy farm to an organic system in 2004. The farm has been certified for 5 years. They currently milk 100 Holstein and crossbred cows, selling the milk to the Organic Valley Cooperative. The farm is also in the start-up phase of building a herd of dairy goats and expanding their organic grain production to meet on-farm needs.
Soil building has been central to the farm's successful transition. We'll dive deep into the complexities of soils and show how healthy soils make for strong forages and healthy, productive animals.
Dr. Darreman will share his wisdom on how cows give out signals that can tell you valuable information about their housing and health.
Learn about the tools, techniques and challenges of managing animal health from the three unique perspectives of these experts, with plenty of time for question and answer.
