The East Carolina Livestock Arena Board is proud to announce the purchase of a 13.78 acre site .6 of a mile south of the US 64 Kingsboro interchange on Kingsboro Road (between Tarboro and Rocky Mount) for the purpose of building the new East Carolina Agriculture and Education Center. This new facility will replace the old East Carolina Livestock Arena on Old Battleboro Road, one mile North of Highway 97 near Rocky Mount.

This new million dollar project, while replacing the current 56 year old Arena, will put in place a new multi-purpose facility that will serve the educational and marketing needs of Northeastern North Carolina's crop and livestock producers, vegetable producers, agri-businesses, businesses, communities and youth. The Arena Board is particularly excited that this new Center's educational and conference facilities will be useful to such a wide range of activities. For example, an industry will be able to use the individually mounted, 208 seat sales theater for training/meetings, while the adjacent 290  seat banquet hall is set up for their break and meal. Expectations are that eventually much of the use of this complex will be non-agricultural in nature which, in turn, will help fund the operation of the Agriculture and Education Center and its historical function of promoting the livestock industry and developing strong leadership skills through 4-H participation.

During the planning process all N.C. Commodity groups were surveyed 86% of respondents said they would be interested in using it for meeting and exhibits. There is real potential that this could be used regionally by groups in the Southeastern U.S. The Board has even had inquires about rental of this facility by a national organization.

It is also a goal to bring desperately needed new alternatives in agriculture to our area while fostering an atmosphere in which new innovation and new ideas will blossom into new business ventures. Predictions are that this complex could generate 1.5 to 2.5 million dollars in new income per year. we now have a 9,000 ft.2 heated/cooled sales, large banquet room, concession area and lobby, a 5,800 ft.2 outdoor community facility along with a large metal structure for penning livestock and holding other events.

This facility's completion culminates 10 years of planning and fund raising. There is currently 1.5 million available for this Agriculture and Education Center, $360,000 of which is from the Golden LEAF Foundation, Inc.   Rental fees are available on this site or for those seeking more information can call the Edgecombe Extension Center at 252-641-7815.
