Report Downy Mildew

Instructions:

  1. Are you sure you actually have downy mildew? In North Carolina, the disease can be confirmed by your County Agricultural Extension Office or State Downy Mildew Coordinator. In other states and countries, contact your local Agricultural Extension Office.
  2. Fill out the REPORT FORM as completely as possible by typing the appropriate information in the blanks provided. Then, click on the SUBMIT button.
  3. If your report is transmitted successfully, you will receive a return E-mail message from the North American Plant Disease Forecast Center in Raleigh, NC.
  4. Most of the report information is confidential. The reporter's name, address, farm or business will not appear in any forecast. Only the source location and source strength will be indicated.
  5. The "Narrative Account of the Source" is an additional feature of the report for your use. HOWEVER, this account should not be a substitute for the details requested in the report. The text portion of the Narrative Account provides the reporter with a place to give details and a general account of the situation as it exists and develops over time. This feature, and this feature only, will be shared each day with all the State Downy Mildew Coordinators and the general public via the Internet Forecast homepage. Please, be concise and informative. No editing will be done - the account will appear EXACTLY as written. Below is an example of how a narrative account might be written:

Narrative Account of a Downy Mildew Outbreak - EXAMPLE

Downy mildew was found on cantaloupe - and confirmed on May --, 1998 in Wake County near Knightdale, NC. Fresh, active lesions were found in 3 fields in Wake County and in 2 fields in adjacent Johnston, Co.
Two generations of lesions (fresh and 10-14 days old) were found in several fields where protective spraying had not been applied. The disease appears to have been present for 1-2 weeks. Weather conditions have been favorable for downy mildew since April --. Good control (no lesions) has been practiced by most cucurbit growers in the infected area.
