Forecast Summary: Friday, September 5, 2008
Weather - Central & Eastern U.S. / southern Canada: Tropical Storm Hanna to move rapidly up the East Coast; showers associated with one front Friday and Saturday in the eastern U.S. / southern Canada, and another front Sunday moving east from the Plains. Tropical Storm Hanna, now located off the Southeast coast, will be moving north and northeast through the Eastern Seaboard late Friday through Saturday night. Very heavy rains and some high winds will accompany Hanna, who is almost a Category 1 hurricane. The eastern U.S. will clear out to a large degree for Sunday. Meanwhile, a frontal system that stretches from southern Canada to the Gulf Coast will be moving eastward as Hanna races ahead of it. Scattered showers and clouds will accompany this front. Another front coming out of the Rockies will impact some of the Plains and Great Lakes by Sunday. High temperatures will run from the 60's and 70's North to 80's and 90's South. Lows mostly from the 50's North to 70's South, with some 40's in the upper Midwest.
OUTLOOK
Friday through Sunday - Elevated risks associated mostly with the passage of TS Hanna this weekend, and mostly near the known source regions.
Friday: HIGH Risk for cucurbits in southeast GA, northeast FL, central and eastern SC, central and eastern NC, and southern VA. Strongly Moderate Risk for central and northern OH, northwest PA, and southern Ontario. Moderate Risk for western OK, western SC, and southeast IN. Low Risk otherwise.
Saturday: HIGH Risk for cucurbits in central SC, central and eastern NC, eastern and northern VA, DE, MD, eastern WV, central and eastern PA, NJ, southeast NY, Long Island, and southern New England. Strongly Moderate Risk for the western 1/2 of NY and southern Quebec. Moderate Risk for cucurbits in western OK, southern GA, northern FL, and western SC. Low Risk otherwise.
Sunday: Strongly Moderate Risk for cucurbits in central and southern MI, central and northern OH, southern Ontario, and northwest PA. Moderate Risk for southern GA and northern FL. Low Risk otherwise.
