*** Forecasts were delayed Thursday afternoon in order to incorporate a new source: the first report from Canada for the 2006 growing season. The discovery is in a field of cucumber located in Brant County in southern Ontario. About 5% of this 20 acre field is showing symptoms. ***

Forecast Summary: Tuesday, July 4, 2006

Weather - Tuesday, July 4 - Central / Eastern U.S / southern Canada.: Very hot and mostly dry weather across the South. Two notable exceptions will be the wet along the western Gulf into TX under a tropical moisture feed, and scattered to numerous showers along the FL peninsula. Unsettled weather across the North, where a dissipating front in the Northeast and Ohio Valley will give way to a second, stronger cold front moving south from the Great Lakes. Expect scattered to numerous showers and storms in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, and Ohio Valley regions, especially on Tuesday. Clearing and cooler across the far north on Wednesday as the front pushes farther south. Showers continuing in the mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley southwestward toward the western Gulf Coast. Highs in the 80's and 90's, with a few 100's possible south.

Monday through Wednesday:

In the South ... Strongly Moderate Risk to remaining cucurbits in southern FL each day. Moderate Risk for central FL each day. Moderate Risk for deep south TX and far northeastern Mexico each day. Low Risk otherwise.

To the north ... Moderate to Strongly Moderate Risk to cucurbits in southeast MI, northwest OH, and southern Ontario on Monday. Moderate Risk Tuesday for southeast MI, southern Ontario, northern Ohio, and western sections of NY and PA. Sunny weather in the wake of the cold front will yield Low Risk to cucurbit crops from long-range transport on Wednesday.
